2-STAR AWARD FOR THE LIQUID ITSELF

A premium-mixer category with one dominant name doesn’t yield to another launch. It needed a genuinely credible liquid and an equally credible way in — built together. As the longest-standing member of the founding development team, ideation to market, I helped shape both the concept and the liquid.

The route in was Kanpai — a quarterly trade magazine run by an independent editorial team, not a marketing department. It won the attention a discount never could, and carried the brand into stockists from Fortnum & Mason to Harvey Nichols. I remain credited on its founding story.

CURRICULUM MODULES BUILT WITH UNIVERSITY ACADEMICS

Diageo wanted lasting craft and brand affinity among the world’s bartenders — not a campaign, but education built to last. I created and built World Class Studios around four modules, each developed with leading academics: culinary science, the psychology of flavour, sustainability and fermentation.

I rolled it out worldwide and served as Global Challenge Director of its accompanying global competition. Built with rigour rather than noise, it earned the trade’s trust — and kept it.

A format that once sold millions of bottles a week had gone twenty-five years without a serious challenger. I founded and formulated the answer, and owned it end to end — liquid, shelf life, cost, manufacture, supply, brand and route to market.

The distribution was built with no paid marketing, and every part of the risk was mine to carry.

RESORT IN THE MIDDLE EAST & NORTH AFRICA, TRAVEL + LEISURE — THE PROPERTY’S AWARD, NOT MINE

A resort with five bars faces a problem a single venue never does: a guest staying a week will visit all of them. If the five blur into one, the property loses the spend and the guest loses interest. Each bar needed its own proposition — its own audience, its own occasion, and a reason to be chosen over the other four.

I developed all five concepts, from positioning and menu architecture through to the liquid itself, then trained the teams and ran the openings. The part that mattered most came after: the standards were built to be operated by people I would never meet. Thirteen years on, the bars still run on them.
